Tigist Menkir

Tigist (Tiggy) Menkir is a postdoctoral research fellow at Stanford Health Policy who is broadly interested in using mechanistic and statistical models to improve the monitoring of infectious diseases and their severe chronic sequelae, and to project the impact of targeted prevention policies, from testing to vaccination. Her research at SHP, in collaboration with Professor Fernando Alarid-Escudero, will bridge infectious disease epidemiology with cancer modeling and data science, with a focus on infection-associated cancers such as gastric cancer. Her previous work has developed dynamic transmission models and regression-based and nonparametric statistical tools to improve risk prediction and intervention impact assessments for a range of diseases, including measles, COVID-19, and Typhoid fever. She received her PhD in Population Health Sciences (Specialization: Infectious Disease Epidemiology) and her MS in Epidemiology, both from Harvard University.
