Biography
Tierra was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, where she pursued her academic journey at Centenary College of Louisiana and LSU Health Shreveport Medical School, establishing a strong foundation in medicine. After completing her residency at Baylor College of Medicine’s Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, she advanced to a pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at Stanford University in 2023 and is currently a second-year fellow. Concurrently, Tierra is earning a Master of Science in Health Policy to acquire the quantitative and qualitative skills essential for her role as a physician scientist.
Her passion for health equity and the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity was ignited by observing disparities affecting vulnerable populations. Committed to addressing these challenges, Tierra aims to investigate healthcare inequities that lead to racial disparities in childhood obesity and develop strategies to provide equitable access to healthy food resources for all children. In her fellowship research, she collaborates with Dr. Christopher Gardner and the Stanford Prevention Research Center, focusing on the roles of maternal diet and the microbiome in childhood obesity. Through her work in health policy, her research, and her clinical role in pediatric gastroenterology, Tierra strives to transform healthcare systems to achieve greater equity and better health outcomes for children everywhere
