Biography

Jacob Guorgui, MD, is a general surgery resident at Stanford with a clinical interest in thoracic surgery. He earned his medical degree as a David Geffen Merit Scholar at UCLA and graduated summa cum laude as a Regents Scholar at UC Davis. He has published numerous first-author studies, and prior work includes addressing bias in transplantation access and evaluating price transparency in surgical care. His current research explores the intersection of surgery, health economics, and value-based care, focusing on how new payment models affect hospitals, patients, and health system spending. He is especially interested in integrating patient-centered outcomes—including out-of-pocket costs, disability, and return to work—into evaluations of surgical value and cost-effectiveness. Through this work, he aims to inform payment reform that supports high-quality, equitable, and sustainable surgical care delivery.
