Social Interventions, Health and Wellbeing: The Long-term and Intergenerational Effects of a School Construction Program

Maria Rosales-Rueda is an assistant professor of economics at Rutgers University-Newark as well as a faculty research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Her research interests include the fields of human capital, health, and development economics. The research presented at the symposium looked at the experiment in Indonesia in which the government in the 1970s increased access to primary schools by building 61,000 news schools between 1974 and 1979. The program resulted in some evidence that individuals exposed to the program have better health later in life along multiple measures.
