Paul Wise: 50 Years of Fighting for Children
In this interview with the Pandemic and Emergency Readiness Lab at McGill University, SHP's Pause Wise talks about his 50 years of going from crisis to crisis to protect children. Wise, MD, a pediatrician and the Richard E. Behrman Professor of Child Health and Society at Stanford Medicine, currently serves as court-appointed mediator for children in ICE custody. His career asks one question: what does it mean to care for children when systems have failed them?
In this Stanford Medicine Medcast podcast, SHP's Maya Rossin-Slater, PhD, discusses the far-reaching health impact of gun violence in schools. Gun violence has become the leading cause of death of children in the United States, surpassing motor vehicle crashes in 2020. Rossin-Slater, the Josephine Knotts Knowles Professor of Human Biology and associate professor of health policy, notes the trauma experienced by school shootings can last for many years, even in cases where there are no deaths or injuries.
Dr. Paul Wise, a professor of health policy and pediatrics, talks about his work in global hotspots in an effort to protect children in conflict.
