The positivity effect in health behavior: Focusing on positive information may aid habit formation in older adults

Researchers

Candice Hogan
Investigator

This study aimed to test whether older adults demonstrate a positivity bias in memory feedback about exercise habits and performance, and to test whether this positivity bias accounts for better adherence to a newly initiated exercise routine over time. The researchers established connections with 5 local YMCAs, worked with them to finalize the study protocol, and launched the study right on schedule on January 1, 2012.  The research team recruited 147 participants and has completed data collection. The researchers are currently analyzing those data. They will plan to write up findings for publication in the coming year.
